Vacationing in California

Monterrey Bay and the Salinas Valley is a beautiful part of God's creation in central California. Genelle and I spent 10 glorious days with her parents, their goats, and Dad's honeybees. It had been way too long since we had been out to see them and the first vacation in 30+ years without children! Who said being "empty-nesters" was such a bad thing?

In addition to the goats and honeybees, we saw deer and a gray fox on their property; they are regular visitors, along with an occasional bobcat and coyote. Dad raises some of the best honey in the world. He has quart and gallons for sale. Contact me if you are interested in purchasing some.

Dad continually receives calls to come and retrieve a swarm of bees. I
had the privilege of going with him on a bee call. This time Dad used his vacuum to retrieve the swarm. The bees were not harmed, nor was Dad or the guy taking the picture.

Genelle and her Mom enjoyed the abundance of shopping - it w
as a good thing we purchased our airline tickets before they began charging for the second checked bag! All four suitcases were full, but under the 50 pounds. PTL!

I am so proud of Genelle! She faced the giant of flying square in the face and slew it.

We were able to celebrate Father's Day and Dad'
s 78th birthday while there. It was the first time in possibly 35+ years that Genelle had been present for those two events. The steak and lobster in Santa Cruz was delicious!

I hope your vacation this summer is as relaxing as ours was.
